The mouse home has provided exactly that, particularly in its animation component which has attracted record numbers of younger guests.
We’ll be highlighting some of the positive aspects that “Moana”, the 2016 film, had that had a similar premise.
Walt Disney Animation Studios has made several notable exceptions to the rule. Wreck it Ralph and Ralph Breaks the Internet are two examples of recent notable exceptions.
Although there has not been a formal announcement, given the success of “Moana”, which earned $650 million worldwide and received an almost perfect critical rating, it is hard to understand why Disney would not do the same for the movie.

Moana 2 Release Date: Extended or Postponed
Moana’s American premiere took place on November 23, 2016. Lin Manuel Miranda, a first in the film industry is said to be in talks with Disney about designing the first Latina Disney princess. This is the only noteworthy development.
Miranda played a key role in the creation of Moana. She was also instrumental in the film’s musical score. This is a common practice when studios add significant characters to their casts. It will undoubtedly give Disney more mileage.
This sequel will feature more of the Moana-Maui romance that was so well received in the original film.
After the end of the first movie Moana assumes the role of chief/Wayfinder and guides her people.
Although I doubt the sequel will spend too much time setting up Maui and Moana’s reunions, it is where the film could begin. It would also show Moana in her new role, and how she succeeds.
The movie’s mystical/fantasy theme must be kept intact throughout. However, Latina perspectives may be explored further once this foundation is in place.
